Lonely Planet, the world’s largest travel guide book publisher [1] has recently declared Salisbury in Wiltshire to be the 7th best city in the world to visit in 2015 [2].
This is due to many factors including the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, its proximity to Stonehenge, and the festivities happening in and around its 13th Century cathedral.
This article indicates that 2015 is going to be an exceptionally busy year for tourism in Salisbury, and should benefit the local economy greatly. Not only will tourist-related industries such as hotels and restaurants benefit, but there will also be a knock on effect for suppliers and many other businesses in one way or another.
The tourists that will be visiting Salisbury next year are likely to start planning their visit shortly, and as they will be from a-far they are likely to use the web to find their suppliers. Furthermore, the tourist industry will be preparing for this in advance and also starting their research soon.
Is your business easily found on search engines? Is your website better than your competitors? Does your website convert visitors into sales? If the answer to any of these is “no” or “maybe” then you could soon be missing out on a huge opportunity.
With Salisbury beating New York, London, Rome, Paris, Sydney, Vienna, and in fact thousands of other cities around the world, 2015 could be a manic year for us all, let’s certainly hope so. So let’s also start putting things in place now so that we take advantage of this, and don’t miss out on our slice of the cake.
